Theme for the Month: Kindness and
Compassion
Web Resources:
Topics for
Discussion:
- Brainstorm what the students can do
to show compassion this month.
- Make a Kindness Plan: what is
something a student can do to be kind to someone? Draw/write out the plan, set
a date to carryout the plan, and report back to the group.
- Discuss the old saying, “Sticks and
stones may make break my bones but words will never hurt me.” Is it true?
How do you help make TP a safe and kind place?
Summary
Ideas from these sites:
- Encourage Random Acts of Kindness:
what can your students do that is random and kind this month?
- Write Thank You notes: Write notes
to teachers, parents, educational assistants, lunch hostesses, or anyone who
helped your students this month.
- Appreciation Bags: Students each
have a bag/envelope on the side of their desk.
Students write appreciations and leave them in someone else’s bag.
- Brainstorm a friend: What do you look for in a friend? Make Want-Ad poster(s) for a true friend and what would that look like
- Pat on the back: Have students copy their hands on a sheet of paper. Then write their name on the bottom of the paper. Next students walk around the room writing complements to that student.
- Student of the day: Each day at
community circle highlight a different student and ask each student to give an
appreciation to that student. Write
down the responses for the students to keep.
